Don Gullett tossed a complete game as he won his third contest to lead the 1975 team to the title in the Stat-O-Matic Reds Tournament presented by Press Room Pass.
The No. 1 seed in the tourney, the 1975 squad won 3-1 to finish as the champs over the No. 3 seed.
Gullett allowed seven hits with two strikeouts and just one run on a homer by Frank McCormick.
George Foster ended the scoring drought for in the bottom of the sixth with a RBI double off 1940 starter Bucky Walters, who would be denied his third win of the tournament.
Pete Rose made it 2-0 with run-scoring single in the seventh. Walters would leave the mound after walking Joe Morgan with the bases loaded.
Whitey Moore blanked 1975 the rest of the way as he pitched in in his third game of the series without allowing a run on just one hit.
Rose topped 1975 with three hits, while Lonny Frey led the 1940 team with three hits.
Gullett was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. He worked 26 innings on the mound and allowed 19 hits, but only four runs as he struck out 13.
Offensively in seven games, Foster and McCormick were the only players to drive in four runs in a contest and they both did it twice.
McCormick led the way with three homers and 12 RBI. He was 10-for-28 (.357) with three doubles.
Foster finished 9-of-29 (.310) with a homer, five doubles and nine RBI.
