FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – Northeastern basketball player Nate Reynolds signed his NCAA National Letter of Intent to attend Anderson University on Wednesday.
“The coaching staff and the teammates we’re unbelievable,” said Reynolds, who plans on studying business. “I figured that was the one.”
Similar styles of play was also a factor.
“They’re just like us,” Reynolds said. “It won’t be much of a transition to get to play like that.”
Nate is the son of Jeremy Reynolds and Becky Reynolds.
“It’s great for me that he gets a chance to go on and play,” Jeremy said. “For me, it’s about the friendships he will build at the next level and the education he’s going to receive.”
“I told him you have to pick a college for the school and basketball is second,” Jeremy continued. “That’s worked out well and I’m just excited for him for the friendships he’ll develop.”
Northeastern coach Brent Ross agreed.
“The great thing is that he made a choice that really fit him,” Ross said. “Coach (Owen) Handy does a great job as far as playing up and down the floor. He plays a lot of the same style that we play and Nate will fit right in.”
Ross and Jeremy Reynolds were high school teammates with the Knights, who became opponents in college. Ross played at Anderson and Reynolds was an all-conference performer at Earlham College.
“Jeremy will be able to give him advice on what he experienced and how hard it is,” Ross said. “It’s a lot different than high school.”
“Nate has wanted to play basketball his whole life,” Ross added. “He’s worked his tail off and now he’s got an opportunity. There’s a lot of room for growth. It’s going to be exciting to see what kind of player he becomes in college.”
Nate Reynolds finished his career with 827 points after averaging 11.4 points per contest this season.
“We’ve always bonded over basketball,” Nate said of his relationship with his father. “I always told him I was going to beat all of his records. It’s always fun to follow in my dad’s footsteps.”
A Division III school, Anderson is a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
