CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Myra Robinson became the third Centerville golfer from the 2017 team to declare her intentions to continue her career as she announced on Tuesday that she would attend Earlham College.
“I’ve always wanted to go to a small school,” said Robinson, who is the daughter of Robert and Michele. “The campus is beautiful and quiet.”
Robinson plans on studying Japanese culture and language with a minor in business economics.
“She’s already taking classes there,” Centerville Head Coach Damon Anderson said. “It was a perfect fit academically and athletically.”
With her golf career beginning in junior high, Robinson wasn’t thinking about playing college, but became a possibility by her junior year of high school after she finished in the top five during the Wayne County Tournament.
“It was just a thing to do,” she said of her early days on the course. “I started to actually enjoy it. I loved the team. We’re all like sisters.”
Being a part of the First Tee program in Richmond allowed her to grow into a college golfer.
“It got me out and practicing,” Robinson said. “That’s what really helped me. We got to go to camps and that was really helpful. They focused on you.”
This season, Robinson helped the Bulldogs to the Wayne County Tournament championship, while earning all-county and All-Tri-Eastern Conference honors.
The other two Centerville golfers who are planning to play golf in college are Brooke Killion (Huntington University) and Chloe Brown (Freed-Hardeman University).
“To have three at one time is unprecedented for me,” Anderson said. “If you would have seen them in seventh grade, you would have never expected this.”
“They have worked really hard their whole career,” Anderson continued. “It’s been good to see them grow.”
Earlham, under head coach Matt Gehring, competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
