Donald Tincher was a sportswriter and college sports information director for more than two decades before joining the world of bloggers.
Tincher started Press Room Pass during July of 2015, the same year that he began writing Shoestring Catches on MLB.com/blogs. The two sites were merged later that year.
Coverage of the Tri-Eastern Conference in Indiana began in November of 2015 with boys and girls basketball and ended in the spring of 2018.
Shoestring Catches was ranked in the Top 10 of all of the fan sites on MLB.com/blogs from May to October in 2015, with the highest ranking in July at No. 5.
For 2015, the site finished in the No. 13 spot for the year, while only being active eight months. As of November of 2015, all of the content from Shoestring Catches was integrated into Press Room Pass.
During his time as a sportswriter for the Palladium-Item in Richmond, Ind., he covered high school, college and professional baseball both at the major and minor league levels for the newspaper. He has also written about many other sports including basketball, football, soccer, cross country, track, volleyball, tennis, field hockey and bowling.
From 1997-2004, Tincher covered auto racing events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Eldora Speedway and Winchester Speedway.
As a sportswriter, Tincher has been honored by several organizations beginning with the Ohio High School Athletic Association as he received the Southwest District Meritorious Service Award for the 1995-96 academic year.
He was selected as the Palladium-Item’s High Achiever in August 1998. Serving as the beat writer for the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball, the Palladium-Item was named the Newspaper of the Year from 1998-2000.
During that same time, he was recognized by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association for coverage of the Tri-Eastern Conference teams in 1999 and 2001.
In 2000, Tincher was honored by the Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors with the First Place Award for Deadline Coverage of Basketball State Finals.
From the fall of 2016 until the spring of 2017, Tincher returned to the Palladium-Item as a part-time sportswriter.
Tincher became the assistant sports information director at Indiana University East in 2018. He is currently the host of the Wayne County Sports Report, which appears on Whitewater Community Television in Richmond, Ind.
With a degree in journalism, Tincher is a 1986 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. He was a men’s basketball student manager for the Cardinals from 1981-85.
After graduation, he became a high school and college basketball coach before entering the writing profession.
He is a proud stockholder of the Green Bay Packers.
