FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – Northeastern’s Tyler Smith was named the Northeastern Tournament’s Most Valuable Player on Tuesday night as he led the Knights to a 62-56 win over Union County in the championship contest.
Smith had 21 points and eight rebounds against the Patriots in the finale. Smith finished with 57 points and 17 rebounds over the three contests. He had 16 points in the 65-32 win over New Washington in the first round followed by a 19-point effort for the Knights in their 83-78 victory over Gary 21st Century.
Nate Reynolds and Bailey Stewart joined Smith on the all-tournament squad. Reynolds had 41 points in the eight-team tourney, while Stewart 28 points and 14 rebounds.
From Union County, Logan Sanford and Breyden Wicker were on the list.
Sanford totaled 55 points in three contests, including the 33-point barrage in the Union County’s 58-48 win over Lawrenceburg. Wicker had 27 points and 20 rebounds for the tournament.
The other players to be honored were Jordan Houze (Lawrenceburg), Armond Cathey (Gary 21st Century), Zach Moore (New Washington), Jacen Lands (Triton Central) and Tryston Wheatley (Southwestern).
