The final week of the girls basketball regular season features three teams that are still alive for at least a share of the Tri-Eastern Conference title.
The focal point is on Friday as the front-runner, Union City (16-4, 6-0), visits Hagerstown (15-7, 5-1) for what amounts to a championship game.
“This is the second time in two years that our last game of the season has been a game with the TEC title on the line,” Union City Head Coach Sarah Hines said. “They will also be bringing their best game in order to try to secure a piece of the title.”
“Should be a great atmosphere,” Hines added. “We are blessed and excited for this opportunity and our plan is to come home with the championship.”
If Union City wins the Indians will claim their first outright crown since 2002.
A Hagerstown victory means that the Tigers would earn a share of the top spot.
“We are very excited to play a very good Union City team with a chance to share the conference title,” Hagerstown Head Coach Chris Oliger said.
Union County (13-7, 4-1) is also in the mix. However, the Patriots need Hagerstown to win, while they must beat Lincoln (10-10, 1-4) on Tuesday and Centerville (4-13, 1-5) on Friday. If that scenario happens, all three teams would be 6-1 and the trio would share the TEC title for the second straight season.
Remaining Schedule
In addition to the Union County at Lincoln contest on Tuesday, Union City entertains Ansonia (11-6) from Ohio.
Centerville welcomes (Union 15-5), while Tri gets a visit from Wes-Del (2-15).
Tri finishes its regular season on Thursday as the Titans face Eastern Hancock (15-6) at home.
Friday’s other TEC game has Lincoln traveling to Northeastern (2-18, 0-6).
