TEC Girls Basketball Preview 12-28-15

tec wall at union coFour tournaments highlight the girls basketball schedule this week for the Tri-Eastern Conference teams.

The largest tourney is the eight-team event at Union City.

“We drew Blue River in the first round on Tuesday,” Union City Head Coach Sarah Hines said.

“It’s a great opportunity for the girls,” Hines added. “It’s great for them to be involved in something like that here at home.”

The Indians (11-2) meet the Vikings (6-6) in the second game, after Hauser (7-5) and Union (7-2) open the tourney.

The other first round contests feature Central Christian (2-8) and Monroe Central (8-3) followed by Liberty Christian (7-5) and Seton (4-9).

There are second round games on Tuesday and Wednesday with the event ending on Wednesday.

Hagerstown at Twin Lakes Tournament

On Monday, Hagerstown (8-4) meets Twin Lakes (5-7) as the Tigers face the host team in the final contest of the opening round.

Class 2A No. 6 Carroll (9-1) plays Western Boone (8-4) in the first game followed by Mount Vernon (11-3) and Western (3-9).

The third game of the eight-team tourney has Indianapolis Cathedral (2-7) squaring off with Logansport (1-10).

The semi-finals and championship round are slated for Tuesday.

Events at Lincoln and Northeastern

Lincoln welcomes three other teams for the girls version of the 2015 Healthy Hoopla Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles won the boys tourney back in November.

The Golden Eagles (4-8) face Cowan (3-8) in the opener in the morning, while Union County (8-5) meets North Decatur (8-3) following that contest. The consolation and championship games are scheduled for Wednesday night.

Northeastern hosts a four-team affair on Wednesday with the same single-day format.

Southern Wells (3-10) and Northeastern (1-11) begin the tourney with the first morning game with Tri-Central (5-8) and Randolph Southern (8-4) after that contest. The final games are in the evening.

Regular Season Games

There are three regular season contests this week starting with Anderson Prep (1-10) at Centerville (3-10) Tuesday afternoon.

Winchester (7-8) visits Yorktown (5-6) on Saturday afternoon, while in the evening, Hagerstown and Seton play at Earlham in the first game of the boys-girls doubleheader.
