RICHMOND, Ind. – Hagerstown pitcher Sam Reagan held Union City in check on Thursday as the Tigers posted a 10-0 victory in five innings over the Indians to advance to the semifinals of the Class 1A Sectional at McBride Stadium.
“That’s the best Sam’s looked all year,” Hagerstown Head Coach Brad Catey said. “He was throwing a lot of strikes.”
After walking Zachary Bradbury and hitting Aaron Foster to start the contest, Reagan fanned a dozen as he only allowed one hit from Union City by Bradbury in the third inning.
“It was a pretty big strike zone,” Reagan said. “I was in there. I can’t complain.”
With the win, the Tri-Eastern Conference champion Tigers (18-4) meet Lincoln in Friday’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles survived an 18-14 battle with Blue River to advance.
“They went through a lot of pitching, but I’m sure they will bounce back and be ready,” Catey said.
Hagerstown scored three times in the second and added another run in the fourth to build a 4-0 advantage thanks to Trey Kelly.
“The bottom of our lineup has been on fire, especially Trey,” Catey said.
In the second, Kelly knocked in two runs with a double before he stole third and scored in a throwing error. He added a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
The Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth as they score six times to end the game.
“They’re just a great team,” Union City Head Coach Bill Bradbury said. “We tried to keep them off balance with some off speed pitches, but when we had to go to the fastball, they just destroyed it.”
“We gave it a run for about four innings,” Bradbury added. “I’m very proud of them.”
Dylan Woolard, Mason Hicks, Trent Weiss and Cam Purtha had the other hits for the Tigers.
Trevor Spence got the loss for the Indians as he worked into the fifth inning.
