HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown boys golf team opened its Tri-Eastern Conference slate with am 169-182 victory over defending champ Centerville on Tuesday at Hartley Hills.
“I’m very happy to start the conference off on a winning note,” Hagerstown Head Coach Bill Mullin said. “Centerville has won the conference the last two years so to psychologically get over that hump, that’s important.”
Hagerstown’s Ben Tinkle led both teams as he carded a 40 for the Tigers.
“Hagerstown is a quality team,” Centerville Head Coach Roger Martin said. “They’re playing well and they are deep.”
“We’re just not (playing) at that level,” Martin continued. “We haven’t developed that consistency and that depth. When we do we can compete with people, but right now we are searching for that.”
Although Mullin was pleased with his team’s effort, he wants his team to cut back on penalty shots and a few high numbers on some holes.
“It’s something we’re still going to have to work on,” he said. “The good news is, it’s April.”
Kyle Cochran carded a 42 for the Tigers, while Caleb Cochran had a 43 and Jonathan Clark finished at 44 with Kevin Beeson adding a 47.
Mason Rader topped Centerville with a 41. The other scores for the Bulldogs were Skyler Benedict 45, Ayden Koyles 46, Josh Duke 50 and Sam Roberts 53.
The Tigers are 1-0 in the TEC, while the Bulldogs are 1-2.
