HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown girls basketball team won its third game in a row on Wednesday as the Tigers defeated Union County 39-28 in Tri-Eastern Conference action.
Hagerstown coach Chris Oliger was pleased with the win as he team improves.
“I’m proud of the girls,” he said. “They’re getting better. We’re doing things the right way. I’m excited about this team.”
The Tigers led 9-7 after one period and then widen their margin to 20-9 by the intermission.
“It was just a great defensive effort,” Oliger said. “Adapting to the play is so important moving forward. You can’t be a one dimensional team, you have to be able to adjust to what people do. We did that.”
“I thought we matched the intensity,” Oliger added. “We played hard and we were physical.”
Brytni Dale led the Tigers with 17 points, while Kassidy Oliger added 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Sierra Dowler topped the Patriots with 17 points.
“We got tons of good looks in the first half and didn’t knock anything down,” Union County coach Scott Gray said. “We’ve struggled with that all year.”
“Sieera is a much better shooter than she showed, but I think she feels a lot of pressure,” Gray continued.
Tara Williams tossed in five and grabbed six rebounds. Fayth Hill also had six rebounds.
The Patriots won the JV contest 18-11 with Samantha Ramey and Brooklyn Wilson leading the way with four points each. Grace Richards led the Tigers with five points.
Union County (1-9, 0-2) visits Oldenburg on Saturday. Hagerstown (4-6, 1-2) is at Centerville next Friday.
