LIBERTY, Ind. – The Hagerstown football team broke open a tight game with three unanswered touchdowns in the second half as the Tiger posted a 31-14 win over Union County on Friday night.
The Tigers trailed 14-12 at halftime of the Tri-Eastern Conference contest before they took the lead for good on a 32-yard run by Owen Golliher at the 7:39 mark of the third period.
A pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter allowed the Tigers to put the game away. Golliher hit Brandon Purtha on a 14-yard scoring pass and then Jalen Oliver added a 1-yard run for the final margin.
Patriots Take Early Lead
Union County grabbed the lead when Cameron Donovan caught a 16-yard pass from Caleb Greene. The duo hooked up on the two-point conversion and it was 8-0.
Mason Hicks scored Hagerstown’s first touchdown on a 59-yard run, but the Tigers failed on the conversion.
In the second quarter, Aaron Daggy scored on a 20-yard run to put the Patriots on top 14-6. Hagerstown closed the gap before the intermission when Golliher threw a 30-yard pass to Hicks with 6:03 left in period.
Hicks led the Tigers with 116 yards on the ground and Golliher added 71. Through the air, Golliher completed 9-of-16 passes for 94 yards.
Oliver had 54 receiving yards on two catches with Hicks finishing with 22 yards on three grabs.
Greene led the Patriots on offense as he threw for 215 yards on 17-of-25 passes. Donovan was his top target with nine grabs for 95 yards.
On the other side of the ball, Jake Combs led the Tigers with seven tackles. Joe Gentry and Blake Fields had seven stops each for Union County.
Hagerstown (3-2, 2-1) visits Tri next Friday, while Union County (2-3, 1-2) entertains Lincoln.
