MIDDLETOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown volleyball team won the first regional in school history on Tuesday as the second-ranked Tigers defeated Shenandoah 25-20, 26-24, 25-23 in the Class 2A event.
The Tigers (35-1) advance to face No. 13 Evansville Mater Dei (25-12) on Saturday in the semi-state at South Decatur at 12:30 p.m.
That contest follows the opener between No. 4 Covenant Christian (31-5) and Paoli (24-12) at 11 a.m. The championship is slated for 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, Jessica Swimm and Lanie McClanahan led the Tigers with 11 kills each against the Raiders (21-13). Aimee Hoodlebrink contributed eight kills.
Hannah Rogers finished with 22 assists, while Brytni Dale added 16 digs. Lacee Dale had 13 digs.
Season Leaders for Hagerstown
Hagerstown’s balanced offense has six players with over 100 kills with Swimm leading the way with 255.
Beth Jenkins leads the Tigers with 506 assists as Hannah Rogers is close behind with 500.
Defensively for the Tigers, Victoria Pierson has 462 digs and Hoodlebrink has 130 blocks.
The Semi-State
Evansville Mater Dei is the only school in the field with a semi-state title, which was back in 1985.
The Wildcats beat Linton-Stockton 25-23, 25-23, 25-10 to earn their ticket to the event.
There are six Mater Dei players who have over 100 kills as Payton Pokorney leads the Wildcats with 265.
Ali Spahn tops the squad with 469 assists, while Alaina Spahn has 454. Ellie Mark leads the team with 675 digs.
Covenant Christian won 25-18, 25-12, 25-14 over Cascade to move on to the next round.
Paoli got past South Ripley 25-13, 18-25, 25-18, 25-15 to win its regional.
