CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Defense was the name of the game on Thursday night as Hagerstown defeated Lincoln 29-18 in Tri-Eastern Conference girls basketball action.
“The girls came out ready to play,” Hagerstown Head Coach Chris Oliger said. “They were having fun.”
The Tigers led 12-7 after the opening period and 19-11 at the intermission.
“Defensively, we were lights out,” Oliger said. “We played really, really well at the defensive end. I was proud of the girls all out team effort.”
However in the third quarter, Lincoln scored all six points to close the gap to 19-17.
The final stanza proved to be a different story as the Golden Eagles had just one point.
“We have struggled a lot offensively this year,” Lincoln Head Coach Garry Laymon said. “The shots were not going down, but we were not executing.”
Madison Brown finally got the Tigers on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer to make it 22-17 with 6:32 left in the contest.
Kenzie Neely scored to give the Tigers a 24-17 advantage 3:19 remaining.
Camryn Bradway hit 5-of-6 free throws to clinch the victory for the Tigers.
Bradway and Hallie Rogers led the Tigers with nine points apiece.
Allie Owens and Olivia Davis topped Lincoln with six points each.
The Tigers won the JV contest 39-12 as Makynna Matanich led the way with 17 points. Kylee Smith led Lincoln with four points.
Hagerstown (8-9, 4-2) is back in action on Saturday against Franklin County (8-10) at the State Fairgrounds.
Lincoln (9-8, 2-3) entertains TEC for Knightstown (3-14, 0-5) on Tuesday.
