Tigers Win Sectional Opener

HagerstownHAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown football team defeated Indianapolis Shortridge 55-8 at Cory Field in the opener of Class A Sectional 46.

With the win, the Tigers (6-4) move on to entertain Knightstown next Friday after the Panthers beat Indianapolis Tindley 63-12.

“I’m expecting them to come out pretty jacked up,” Hagerstown Head Coach Scott Snodgrass said of next week’s opponent.

Mason Hicks scored Hagerstown’s first three touchdowns in the opening period. He started with a 84-yard return of the opening kickoff and then followed with a pair of 10-yard runs to make it 21-0.

“We worked all week on our special teams,” Snodgrass said. “We know that’s a huge part of the game.”

Hicks ran for 95 yards and caught two passes for 37 more.

Owen Golliher added the other touchdown in the first quarter on an 11-yard run and it was 28-0.

In the second frame, Jalen Oliver scored on a 35-yard run and Hicks capped the half with a 16-yard touchdown run as the Tigers led 42-0 at the break.

Golliher hooked up with Oliver for a 27-yard scoring pass before Brett Burns tossed the final score of the third quarter to Oliver from four yards out.

Shortridge (5-4) got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter on a 16-yard pass from Shemar Williams to Erikmychal Powell.

Golliher finished the night with 14 completions in 18 attempts for 152 yards. He added 58 rushing yards. Oliver had three grabs for 43 yards.
