RICHMOND, Ind. – The short game was the difference for the Hagerstown boys golf team on Saturday as the Tigers claimed their second straight Tri-Eastern Conference Tournament title.
“It’s an outstanding achievement,” Hagerstown Head Coach Billy Mullin said. “I’m very proud of the kids for competing.”
“We hit the ball OK,” Mullin continued. “I thought our chipping and putting was the difference. I thought we able to get the ball up and down and save a lot of shots that way.”
The Tigers carded a 313 on the Highland Lake Golf Course, while Union County was next at 324 as Centerville finished third at 336. Tri High was fourth with a 366 and Northeastern was fifth at 368. The other teams in order were Winchester 402, Union City 406, Knightstown 416 and Lincoln 481.
“We felt like we were the best team, we just needed to play well,” Hagerstown’s Carson Orr said. “We executed well.”
Orr was the medalist with a 74 as he edged out Union County’s Tyler Osborne, who had a 75.
“Obviously, Carson played well,” Mullin said. “His chipping and putting was very sharp.”
Orr agreed.
“Even though I didn’t hit any fairways, I was able to avoid trouble,” Orr said. “My short game through out most of the round was solid, which enabled me to score pretty well.”
