HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – Hagerstown Head Coach Billy Mullin didn’t mind Saturday’s playoff.
“I had no stake in that playoff,” Mullin said.
The Tigers had already clinched the Tri-Eastern Conference title with a score of 324 as Mullin watched Carson Orr and Caleb Cochran battle for medalist honors.
“This was a lot better playoff for my nerves than last year,” Mullin said. “It’s a lot better this way.”
Hagertown came up short a year ago in the TEC as Union County won the championship in a playoff, but on Saturday that wouldn’t happen despite a lengthy rain delay.
“I think the rain delay helped us because we got off to a little bit of a slow start,” Mullin said. “The kids were a little nervous in the beginning.”
“After the rain delay, we came out firing.” Mullin continued. “It’s a great day. I’m very proud of the work that they’ve done.”
Orr won the playoff by a stroke on the 19th hole.
“It was just real exciting,” Orr said. “We had already won as a team, which is what matters. It was just a bonus for us for the top two to be playing for the individual championship. I was glad overall that we were the top two.”
Cochran agreed.
“The team did really good,” Cochran said. “We did leave a lot of shots out there, but we’re getting better and better. It means a lot. I was happy.”
Joining Orr and Cochran on the All-TEC team with a top 10 finish were Garrett Schuler (Northeastern) 79, Mason Rader (Centerville) 80, Kyle Cochran (Hagerstown) 84, Mason Melton (Winchester) 84, Skyler Benedict (Centerville) 85, Konner Fabrick (Tri) 86, Tyler Osborne (Union County) 86 and Tyler Dunn (Union County) 87.
