UNION CITY, Ind. – The Tri High girls basketball team survived a close contest on Saturday night as the Titans defeated Randolph Southern 46-44 to claim the Class 1A Union City Sectional title.
“This group has overcame a lot of adversity and have become very close and supportive of each other,” Tri High Co-Head Coach Jeff Miller said.
The Titans (21-4) advance to next Saturday’s Tipton Regional to face Tri-Central (14-10) at noon.
Rockville (19-7) and Southern Wells (11-14) meet in the opener at 10 a.m. The championship contest is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The title was the first since 2014 and sixth in school history. The sectional crowns for the Titans were in 1998, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Payton Moore led the eighth-ranked Titans with 14 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks against the Rebels (18-7).
Lauren Bouslog and Auburn Harvey both added eight points. Bouslog had five steals.
Averi Phelps finished with six points and five rebounds, while Maddie Burchett and Bayleigh Appleby tossed in five points apiece. Burchett handed out six assists.
