GASTON, Ind. – A big third inning was the difference on Tuesday night as the Tri softball team claimed its second straight regional title.
With four runs in the third, the Titans erased a 3-2 deficit as they went on to an 11-4 win over Wes-Del in the Class 1A Regional hosted by the Warriors (12-13).
“We have continued to hit the ball well and our pitching has continued to be strong,” Tri Head Coach Bryan Peggs said. “We are executing at the plate and in the field.”
The Titans (16-5) advance to the Frontier Semi-State to face South Central (21-5) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
“We don’t know much about South Central, but we are going to do some research,” Peggs said.
The Satellites won their third overall regional title with an 11-2 decision over Triton.
South Central, which is located in Union Mills near Valparaiso, won its other regionals in 2007 and 2015.
The other match-up features the host Falcons (20-8) and Pioneer (27-5) at 1 p.m. The championship at the school just north of Lafayette is at 8 p.m.
Against Wes-Del, Mackenzie Peggs continued her hot streak at the plate with five hits including a triple as she scored four times to lead the Titans.
Overall, Peggs is batting .600 for the season, while in three tournament contests, she is 11-of-14 (.786).
Kierstyn Conyers and Kirsten Falck both added a pair of hits as both knocked in one run apiece.
Payton Moore led the way with 2 RBI, while Abbi Coffman, Destiny Taylor and Lauren Bouslog each drove in a run.
