LEWISVILLE, Ind. – The Tri High softball team now has five in row.
The No. 4 Titans defeated Seton Catholic 10-0 on Thursday to win their fifth straight Class 1A sectional title dating back to 2014.
“It is something special,” Tri High Co-Head Coach Bryan Peggs said. “You don’t want to take things for granted. I remember the first one and how excited we were. They expect it to happen.”
“These girls have accomplished a tremendous amount,” Peggs continued. “They’ve been a part of the most successfull athletic program in the school’s history.”
The Titans (23-2) travel to Wes-Del (16-12) on Tuesday for the regional contest. The Warriors defeated Liberty Christian 10-0 on Thursday.
Payton Moore tossed all five innings allowing a hit to Seton’s Grace Deitsch in the second. She fanned 11, walking one and hitting a batter.
“This is kind of what we have been preparing for all year,” Moore said. “We knew we had to get past Lincoln to get to this game.”
The Titans defeated top-ranked Lincoln 1-0 in the semifinal round on Wednesday.
It’s been a long week for the Titans as they finish school, prepare for graduation along with playing softball.
“We had a huge emotional win,” Peggs said of the win over the Tri-Eastern Conference champion Golden Eagles. “There is a lot on these kid’s minds right now. Having a let down is not unexpected and you hope you don’t, but we didn’t play our best softball tonight. We’ve got to find a way to fix that. We did enough to get through the night.”
Kaley Harrison got the Titans started on Thursday with an inside-the-park grand slam to make it 4-0 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Moore doubled home a pair of runs to make it 6-0.
Chloe Gentry gave the Titans another run in the third with a RBI single.
Moore tripled to lead off the fourth and scored on an error on the play.
After Destiny Taylor’s sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 9-0, Moore ended the game with an inside-the-park homer.
“I was just going to keep her going,” Peggs said of Moore’s blast to right field.
Moore led the Titans with three hits, while Harrison, Gentry, Lauren Bouslog, Breanna Reece and Kassidy Stewart each had a hit.
