GASTON, Ind. – The Tri High softball team is heading back to the semi-state.
The fourth-ranked Titans downed Wes-Del 4-3 in the regional on Tuesday night to continue their run for a second straight trip to the Class 1A state title contest.
Last year’s state runner-up, Tri High (24-2) competes in Saturday’s Frankfort Semi-State with three other ranked teams. It’s the fourth straight year the Titans have reached this round of the state tournament.
The Titans face No. 5 Frontier (24-6) in the opener at 11 a.m. No. 3 Pioneer (29-3) plays No. 9 Fremont (26-5) at 1 p.m. The championship game and a ticket to the finals gets underway at 7 p.m.
Payton Moore (19-2) went the distance against the Warriors with nine strikeouts.
Kierstyn Conyers had two hits including a homer to knock in two runs for the Titans.
Lauren Bouslog also had a pair of hits as she drove in a run.
Moore, Abi Busby and Chloe Gentry had hits.
Tri High scored the winning run in the sixth inning on Tuesday after the Warriors had tied the contest at 3-3 in the fifth frame with a two-run homer.
The Titans grabbed an early 3-0 advantage in the first.
