LEWISVILLE, Ind. – The Tri football team broke open a tight game in the second half on Friday as the Titans beat Union County 40-8.
The Titans trailed 8-0 at the intermission before exploding in the third period of the Tri-Eastern Conference contest with three touchdowns.
David O’Neill scored on runs of two yards and seven yards to give the Titans a 16-8 advantage. Nick Wilson added a 29-yard run as the Titans finished the period on top 22-8.
In the final stanza, Wilson scored on an 83-yard run and O’Neill followed with a 10-yard run. Kyler Burchett ended the night for the Titans with a 4-yard run.
O’Neill ran for 210 yards to finish the regular season with 1,497 yards. Wilson added 136 yards on the ground.
Eric Bilby led the Titans with 10 tackles, while Wilson had nine stops.
Union County opened the scoring in the second quarter on a 6-yard run by Caleb Greene, who rushed for 39 yards.
Greene completed 8-of-19 passes for 88 yards. His favorite target was Cameron Donovan, who had six grabs for 49 yards.
Tucker Coffman and Zach Weston led the Patriots with seven tackles each.
Tri (5-4, 4-3) entertains Indiana Deaf (7-2) next Friday in the sectional opener. Union County (2-7, 1-6) faces Milan (7-2) at home.
