Titans Win Tight Battle with Rockets

Kierstyn Conyers records the final out in Tri’s win over Union.

DUBLIN, Ind. – Tri survived a battle with Union on Tuesday as the Titans won 2-0 in the Class 1A sectional hosted by Lincoln in Wilson Park.

Tri (21-3) meets Lincoln (10-10) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles advanced with a 12-2 win over Union City.

“Playing clean, putting the ball in play and being smart on the base paths,” Tri Head Coach Bryan Peggs said of his team’s key to winning against the Golden Eagles. “You can’t make mistakes at this time. All we think about is who we’ve got next.”

On Tuesday, Payton Moore limited the Rockets to three hits in the contest as she fanned a dozen.

After the Titans scored an unearned run in the first inning, they didn’t get a hit off Union pitcher MacKyndsea Burke in the contest until the sixth.

“MacKyndsea threw a great game,” Peggs said. “She was on it. We didn’t get the ball in play until the end.”

“We played good defense and Payton Moore threw a great game too,” Peggs added. “This is about advancing one game and now how big you win.”

The Titans were able to produce another run in the sixth.

“It turned out to be huge,” Peggs said. “It relaxes Payton a little bit and a big hit like that doesn’t hurt you.”

Kirsten Falck got the first hit of the contest for the Titans with a double.

“Kirsten got a nice ball down the line and we got a shot to right field to score her,” Peggs said.

Kierstyn Conyers stroked a double that scored Falck to give the Titans their insurance run.

As it turned out the Titans really didn’t need the extra run as Conyers ended the game with an unassisted double play at first base.
