FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – A fast start was the difference for Tri on Saturday afternoon as the Titans defeated Northeastern 65-38 in Larry Moore Gymnasium.

The Titans led 7-0 after Cayla Johnson, Payton Moore and Mackenzie Peggs each scored in the first two minutes of the Tri-Eastern Conference contest.

“Some of the things we wanted to focus on was the bigs playing well together,” Tri Head Coach Jeff Miller said. “We did some nice things and our perimeters made some nice entry passes and Mackenzie Peggs got us going early.”

Tri would lead 23-10 at the first stop as Moore 10 points and Peggs nail a trio of 3-pointers.

Moore topped the Titans with 22 points and seven rebounds.

“She’s just getting better every game,” Miller said.

Peggs finished with 14 point, while Johnson and Addy Edwards tossed in 11 points each.

Madi Clay led the Knights with 17 points.

“Northeastern has a nice young group,” Miller said. “The coach is doing as nice job bringing them along.

Northeastern Head Coach Princess Darnell is pleased with how her young squad is progressing.

“We made some adjustments and we went into a 1-2-2, which is not something we typically practice and our posts adjusted really well,” Darnell said. “When we first started the season, I couldn’t make an in-game adjustment. We would have to practice.”

Chaise Helton contributed 10 points. Tatum Jordan grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for Northeastern.

“We’ve made such big strides,” Darnell said. “Sometimes it’s hard for them to see that. We are making progress every day. We’re a young team and everybody is coming back next year.”

Tri won the JV game 48-29 with Breanna Reece leading the way with 21 points, while Lauren Bouslog toeed in 12.

Olivia Harris led Northeastern with 15 points.

Tri entertains Union on Monday and Northeastern welcomes TEC foe Hagerstown on Tuesday.
