RICHMOND, Ind. – Tri’s baseball season came to an end on Friday as the Titans fell 11-3 to Seton in the Class 1A Sectional semifinal at McBride Stadium.
“A couple of close calls at first base kind of took the sail away from us,” Tri Head Coach Cary Ellis said.
Josiah Jackson started on the mound for the Titans and held Seton scoreless until the fourth.
“He pitched really good,” Ellis said. “I don’t think that effort deserved the result of what we got.”
Jackson allowed six hit with only two of his six runs being earned. He also had nine strikeouts five of them coming in a row in the second and third innings.
In the fourth, Seton had players reach on a hit and walk. They were both sacrificed into scoring position.
After another out, Seton’s Vincent Falcone hit a grounder and was called safe when the Tri first baseman was ruled to have pulled his foot off the bag. The end result was two runs scored on the play.
After the two runs in the fourth, the Cardinals added two more in the sixth and and then they exploded in the seventh with seven runs.
Tri picked up its first run in the sixth on a RBI single from Bryce Longnecker.
The Titans finished with two runs in the bottom of the seventh as one scored on a wild pitch and the other was on a sacrifice fly from Eric Bilby.
“They didn’t quit fighting,” Ellis said. They are young kids and their eager to learn. I’m very proud of them.”
