PARKER CITY, Ind. – The Union City boys basketball team started the Randolph County Tournament on Wednesday with a decisive 63-26 victory over Union at Monroe Central.
The Indians (6-3) advance to Thursday’s semifinals against Monroe Central (3-7). The other semifinal contest features Randolph Southern (1-7) and Winchester (4-3). The championship is slated for Saturday.
“I thought we did a good job of playing defense and executing our game plan,” Union City Head Coach Dustin Baldwin said. “I also thought our guys did a really good job running our break and playing unselfishly offensively.”
It didn’t take long for the Indians to grab control of the affair as they built a 19-5 advantage after the first period.
By halftime, Union City led 37-12 and the Indians were never challenged the rest of the way by the Rockets (0-8).
Tyler Thornhill led the Indians with 18 points, while Isaac Davison added 16 points.
Trevor Spence finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Bailey Hughes tossed in eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Trevor Thompson also added eight rebounds.
