BERNE, Ind. – A big third quarter proved to be the difference on Wednesday night the Union City boys basketball team opened the season with a 55-45 victory at South Adams.
Isaac Davison led Union City with 16 points, while Trevor Thompson tossed in 12 points. Davison led the way with 11 rebounds and Thompson grabbed eight.
Despite the Starfires (0-1) concentrating on Davison defensively, he hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Indians (1-0) in the third as they erased 26-21 halftime deficit to grab a 41-33 advantage by the end of the period.
“They ran a diamond and one (on Davison),” Union City Head Coach Dustin Baldwin said.
“We finally started executing against it,” Baldwin continued. “We got better shots and starting rebounding.”
Once the Indians took the lead with the 20-7 quarter, they were able to hold off the Starfires for the win.
Isaac Jefferis added eight points for the Indians and Bailey Hughes scored seven points.
Union City returns to action at home on Saturday as the Indians entertain crosstown rival Mississinawa Vally.
