MT. SUMMIT, Ind. – The Union City boys basketball team had its season come to an end on Saturday as the Indians fell 62-38 to No. 2 Seton in the championship contest of the Class 1A sectional at Blue River.
“We played a good team and got off to a bad start,” Union City Head Coach Dustin Baldwin said.
Seton led 19-0 after the first period and then 35-11 by halftime. Desmond Bane led the Cardinals with 24 points and Billie Webster III finished with 16.
Bailey Hughes topped the Indians with 11 points and four rebounds against the Cardinals (23-3), who won their third straight sectional crown.
Tyler Thornhill tossed in 10 points for the Indians (13-12).
Isaac Jefferis added eight points and Isaac Davison contributed seven.
Saturday marked the last time Hughes and Davison would play for the Indians.
“Our seniors are a big reason we had this opportunity tonight,” Baldwin said. “They are both great kids that have worked hard for four years to be where they are today.”
“All we can ask as coaches is for players to get better every day,” Baldwin added. “Our basketball program is in a better place today than when they first walked in.”
