UNION CITY, Ind. – The Union City girls basketball team needed an extra session on Saturday, but the Indians were able to earn a 58-49 victory over Richmond.
The game was tight from the beginning as Union City held a 13-10 lead at the end of the first period. By halftime, the Indians remained on top 26-19.
In the third period, Richmond was able to tie the game 30-30 at the end of the frame.
Richmond led 45-42 in the final moments of regulation and Justiss Cantu found Kora Kerns for a 3-pointer, which tied the game at 45-45 and sent it to overtime.
In the overtime, Union City won it with a 13-4 effort. The Indians were 8-of-9 from the free throw line with Cantu leading the way by converting 5-of-6 attempts.
The Indians (6-2) had three players record double-doubles against the Red Devils (1-5).
Courtney Wise led Union City with 17 points, while grabbing a dozen rebounds. Baylee Hartman led the squad with 14 rebounds as she tossed in 13 points.
Cantu’s night was a little different as she scored 16 points and picked up 10 steals.
Aliyah Gutierrez scored 21 points as Union City won the JV contest 46-22.
Union City travels to Centerville for a Tri-Eastern Conference contest on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
