LEWISVILLE, Ind. – Union City remained unbeaten in the Tri-Eastern Conference on Friday as the Indians defeated Tri 55-40.
The Class 1A No. 8 Indians clinched at least a share of the title with a 6-0 mark in the conference, while they are 11-2 overall.
It is the fifth crown in school history as the Indians also won in 1985, 2002, 2015 and 2016.
The Indians can claim the outright championship with a win in their regular season finale at home against Hagerstown on Jan. 27.
On Wednesday the game was tied 8-8 after the first quarter, Union City built a 23-19 advantage by the intermission. They were able to pull away in the second half.
Union City had four players in double figures led by Justiss Cantu and Kelsey Zimmers with 14 each. Courtney Wise and Kora Kerns tossed in 10 points apiece.
Cantu added six assists and eight steals. Kerns led the way with seven rebounds and Wise finished with six.
Payton Moore led the Titans with 24 points, while Karlee Winkhart added 11 points.
The Indians return to action in the Union City Invitational against Liberty Christian on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
The Titans (7-4, 2-3) face Daleville as they host the Tri Tournament on Friday, Dec. 30.
