LYNN, Ind. – It took some time, but the Union City girls basketball team finally found the winning formula on Tuesday night as the Indians defeated Blue River 57-32.
With the win, Union City (18-5) now faces Seton (9-14) in Friday’s first semifinal contest of Class 1A Sectional 56 at Randolph Southern.
“We started out flat, but got a jump start in the third quarter and picked up the intensity and played hard,” Union City Head Coach Sarah Hines said. “We’ve made it through the first round and it’s now time to focus on Seton Catholic.”
“The will be a different team than what we played at the beginning of the year,” Hines added. “They are improved and will be fighting for a win on Friday.”
Union City beat Seton 74-29 back on Nov. 13.
On Tuesday, the Indians trailed 11-9 after the first period, but were able to take and 21-18 lead by halftime.
The third frame proved to be the difference as Union City held Blue River to five points as the Indians led 40-23 heading into the final stanza.
Union City had three players in double figures as Courtney Wise led the way with 13 points and six blocks against the Vikings (10-14). She also had nine rebounds.
Madeline Adams tossed in 11 points, while Baylee Hartman added 10 points, three steals and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. Kora Kerns contributed six steals.
