MT. SUMMIT, Ind. – The Union City boys basketball team had three players in double figures on Tuesday night as the Indians moved on in the Class 1A sectional at Blue River.
The Indians defeated Union 63-44 to set up a Friday night semifinal affair against Randolph Southern (1-21).
Isaac Davison and Isaac Jefferis both topped the Indians (12-11) with 16 points, while Bailey Hughes tossed in 14 against the Rockets.
Union City led 17-14 after one frame before putting together 26-point period building a 43-26 halftime lead.
“I thought we got off to a slow start and Union was executing really well,” Union City Head Coach Dustin Baldwin said. “In the second quarter, we really starting executing and getting easy baskets and defensively we got some stops and turnovers.”
The Rockets (2-17) rallied in the third period to close the gap to 49-39 before the Indians put the game away.
“In the second half, we were sluggish but finally found our stride and finished the game strong,” Baldwin said.
Blue River beat Tri 62-55 in Tuesday’s opener.
