Union County Boys Post First Win

Union CountyLIBERTY, Ind. – The Union County boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Friday as the Patriots defeated Knightown 62-55.

The Patriots trailed 30-17 at halftime and were able to bounce back in the third period.

“They had 18 points in the paint,” Union County Head Coach Mark Detweiler said. “We changed things at the half and went straight-up man.”

The result was a 24-8 to advantage for the Patriots in the third quarter as they went on top 41-38.

Union County’s defense wasn’t the only improvement as the Patriots scored 21 points in the final frame.

“The best thing we did in the second half was cut better (on offense),” Detweiler said. “We shot the ball extremely well.”

“We took a big step forward against a really good Knightstown team,” he added.

Dillon Miller led the Patriots with 17 points against the Panthers (1-1), while teammate Breyden Wicker tossed in 15.

Union County returns to action at home for a Tri-Eastern Conference affair against Hagerstown next Friday, Dec. 11.
