LIBERTY, Ind. – Five seniors headline the returning players for the Union County girls basketball team as they prepare to battle for another Tri-Eastern Conference title.
“We are very excited about the upcoming season and can’t wait to get started,” Union County Head Coach Scott Gray said. “We have a pretty seasoned group coming back along with some nice additions from the underclassmen.”
“(We) shared a conference title last year and hope to be in the hunt again,” added Gray, who is in his third season with the Patriots. “We return the TEC player of the year in Maddie Fulton along with four other starters.”
Fulton averaged 14.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season as a junior for the Patriots, who were 15-11 overall and tied for the conference crown with Hagerstown and Union City with a 6-1 record.
“Tanner Henry, Madison Walters, Sammie Elleman, and Sierra Dowler are expected to be large contributors as well,” Gray said.
Henry was an All-TEC performer a year ago as she scored 6.6 per contest. Walters was All-TEC Honorable Mention scoring 4.1 a game and grabbing 5.1 rebounds per contest. Henry, Walters, Elleman and Danielle Franklin are also seniors. Dowler is a junior, while sophomore Quinn Stephens and freshman Tara Williams are also on the varsity roster.
Union County visits Franklin County for its season opener on Friday, Nov. 6. After six non-conference affairs, the Patriots begin TEC play at Union City on Friday, Nov 27.
