COWAN, Ind. – The Union County softball team swept a doubleheader at Cowan on Saturday as the Patriots defeated the Blackhawks 17-4 and 20-2.
Union County scored in all five innings of the opener building a 10-2 advantage after two frames.
Makayla Pike hit two home runs and knocked in four, while Emma Adams had four hits with a home run and a double. Haylee Richards had three hits with a homer as Tara Williams and Kristin Klein each added to the home run barrage.
On the mound, Rachel Sparks fanned 13 as held Cowan to three hits.
Second Game
Adams finished with three hits in the second contest with two home runs and a double with five RBIs.
Rainey Shepler blasted a grand slam and a double as she picked up six RBIs. Pike had four hits including a homer as Klein added three hits.
Fayth Hill limited Cowan to a pair of hits in the second game with 10 strikeouts.
Union County (3-0) visits Tri-County North on Monday.
