Every week during the college football season Press Room Pass will highlight some of the top individual performances in college football from around the nation.

Here is a look at some of the top efforts from the first weekend.

East Carolina’s Chris Hairston ran for all of the Pirates (1-0) scores in their 28-20 victory over Towson (0-1).

Hairston rushed for 154 yards in 18 attempts to go with his four touchdowns.

Running back Ray Lawry had one of the top rushing performances of the weekend in Old Dominion’s 38-34 win at Eastern Michigan (0-1).

Lawry gained 223 yards in 28 carries as he scored four times for the Monarchs (1-0).

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes

Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the Red Raiders to a 59-45 victory over Sam Houston State (0-1).

Mahomes completed 33-of-53 passes for 425 yards and four touchdowns for the Red Raiders (1-0). He started the scoring with a 64-yard pass to Devin Lauderdale in the first period. Mahomes tossed a second one to Lauderdale late in the second quarter to put Texas Tech up 42-31 by the intermission.

Ohio State’s Braxton Miller made his return to the field in an exceptional way as he electrified the Buckeye fans. Miller had three catches for 79 yards and a touchdown in Ohio State’s 42-24 win at Virginia Tech (0-1).

Miller was slated to be Ohio State’s starting quarterback last year, but an injury ended his season. This year, Miller moved to receiver as Cardale Jones and J.D. Barrett battled for the Buckeyes (1-0) quarterback spot.

Baylor quarterback Seth Russell had over 400 yards of total offense as the Bears won 56-21 at SMU (0-1).

Russell was 15-of-30 with 376 passing yards with five touchdowns to lead the Bears (1-0). Russell added 59 rushing yards and another score. A favorite target on the day for Russell was Jay Lee, who caught only three passes for 70 yards, but all of them went for touchdowns.
