Craziness was the part of the college football landscape over the last week with coaching changes and South Carolina and Southern Cal.
On the field, the wildest moment occurred as No. 7 Michigan State won 27-23 at No. 12 Michigan (5-2, 2-1).
Michigan State’s Jalen Watts-Jackson scooped up a fumble by Michigan punter Blake O’Neill and ran 38 yards for the winning score as time expired.
The Spartans (7-0, 3-0) never led in the Big 10 contest until the last play of the game.
Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook was 18-of-39 for 328 yards and one touchdown.
Shawn Elliott won his first game at the helm for South Carolina as the Gamecocks (3-4, 1-4) won 19-10 over Vanderbilt (2-4, 0-4).
Clay Helton assumed the controls at USC as the Trojans (3-3) lost 41-31 at No. 14 Notre Dame (6-1).
Top 25 Upsets
There were also a pair of upsets in the Top 25.
Memphis defeated No. 13 Mississippi 37-24, while Utah State beat No. 21 Boise State 52-26.
Mississippi (5-2) held a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter, but by the intermission, the unranked Tigers (6-0) had three touchdowns and a field goal to go on top 24-14.
Tigers quarterback Paxton Lynch completed 39-of-53 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns. Anthony Miller caught 10 of those passes for 132 yards and a score.
For Utah State (4-2, 3-0), it was the first time they had won over the Broncos (5-2, 2-1) in 18 years.
The Aggies led 17-3 after one period, but they put the game away before halftime with three scores in the final moments of the second quarter to build a 45-10 advantage.
Utah State quarterback Kent Myers was 17-of-25 for 157 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 63 yards and another score. Utah State’s defense forced eight turnovers including one that went for a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown by Marwin Evans at the end of the first half.
