While several of their Tri-Eastern Conference rivals have all been on the court, the Falcons have postponed their first three contests.
“We are looking forward to a very tough opening game at Wapahani,” Winchester Head Coach Matt Fine said.
“Our football guys have only been practicing for a week and a half,” Fine continued. “They have done a great job of carrying over the toughness they brought to the football field.”
The Falcons travel to Wapahani on Friday, Dec. 4. Winchester’s football team finshed 10-3 and won the sectional title.
Senior Kiante Enis, the TEC Player of the Year as a sophomore, returns after scoring 23.3 points per contest a year ago for the Falcons, who were 14-10 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Juniors Michael Georgi and Elias Gates follow Enis in the scoring column from last season. Georgi averaged 8.5 points a game, while Gates tossed in 7.9.
“We will be as athletic as Winchester has been in a long time,” Fine said. “We feel like we can compete for championships as the season progresses with our county tourney, conference and the IHSAA tourney.”
Cullen Hall and Arick Miller are Winchester’s other seniors.
The juniors are Austin Lawrence, Drake Moody, Jon Thornburg and Aaron Wallace. Trestan Enis is the only sophomore.
After starting the season at Wapahani, the Falcons don’t have to wait long to get into TEC play as they entertain Randolph County foe Union City on Friday, Dec. 11.
Schedule Changes
The postponed games have all been scheduled with the first one at Delta on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
The Jay County contest is in Portland on Tuesday, Dec. 29, while the Randolph Southern affair is in the Winchester Fieldhouse on Thursday, Feb. 25.
