WINCHESTER, Ind. – Liz Pegg hit a pair of free throws on Wednesday night to put the game away for the Winchester girls basketball team as the Falcons won 57-55 over Delta.
The Falcons led by two points when Pegg stepped to the line with 10.9 seconds remaining in the contest at the Winchester Fieldhouse and she sealed the victory. Delta was able to score to close the gap as time expired.
Mariah Roberts topped the Falcons with 14 points and three steals as two others reached double figures in scoring against the Eagles (2-7).
Pegg finished with 13 points, while Becca Neville tossed in the same amount as she grabbed 16 rebounds.
Sarah Mallory and Kelly Graft each contributed six points for Winchester.
Winchester had a 13-10 edge after the first period, but Delta answered to finish with a 30-34 lead by halftime.
After giving up the first five points in the third quarter, the Falcons took off with some pressure defense and the offense responded. Winchester ended the third frame with a 20-2 run to lead 46-37 when the period ended.
In the final stanza, Delta worked it way back into the game to cut the Winchester lead to just points before Pegg hit the decisive free throws.
Winchester won the JV contest 41-25 as Kira Robinson led the way with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Falcons (5-4) are back on the court at Monroe Central on Saturday, Dec. 5.
