LEWISVILLE, Ind. – The Winchester football team stayed in a tie at top of the Tri-Eastern Conference standings on Friday as the Golden Falcons posted a 25-20 victory at Tri.
Winchester led 19-12 at halftime as the Golden Falcons were able to hang on as Austin Fritts intercepted a pass to stop the Titans last drive.
Elias Gates led Winchester 234 yards rushing with a pair of scores, while adding a 7-yard touchdown grab from quarterback Austin Lawrence.
Gates now has 900 yards rushing this season. Lawrence ran for Winchester’s other touchdown.
For the Titans, David O’Neill led the way with 214 yards on the ground with a touchdown and he gained over 200 yards for the third time this season. He has 1,287 yards rushing this fall.
Tri quarterback Alex Melton ran for a touchdown and threw one to Seth Butler.
Defensively, Gates led Winchester with 11 tackles. Chris Blake had 16 stops for the Titans.
Next Friday, Winchester (6-2, 5-1) entertains Centerville (3-5, 3-3). Tri (4-4, 3-3) travels to Union County (2-6, 1-5).
