Winchester’s Maddie Lawrence drives around Tri High’s Auburn Harvey.

LEWISVILLE, Ind. –
The Winchester girls basketball team won its fifth straight on Friday night as the Golden Falcons defeated Tri High 74-45.

“I was very pleased with my girls,” Winchester Head Coach Holly Gutierrez said. “They finally game alive and took care of business.”

The Golden Falcons are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Tri-Eastern Conference. The Titans are 2-2, 0-2.

“This is probably the hardest conference place to come play for us,” Gutierrez said. “It’s a long drive and just the intensity they set up in here.”

The Titans just out to a 6-2 advantage after Auburn Harvey and Kaley Harrison drilled 3-pointers.

Winchester eventually tied the game at 6-6 as Maddie Lawrence stole an in-bound pass with 6:24 left in the opening period.

Shelby Miller later hit a 3-pointer at the 4:31 mark to put the Golden Falcons up 9-6. They would lead 26-11 at the first stop.

“We knew coming in that we could play our best and it would still be very difficult,” Tri High Co-Coach Jeff Miller said. “They are just solid. They’re not only a nice team, but they are nice kids.”

Winchester led 42-21 at the half and 61-28 after three.

“Our kids competed,” Miller said. “They played hard and didn’t quit. I know the score wasn’t very good, but we got better playing against them and we found out some things about us.”

Lawrence recorded another triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Miller finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

“This year, we have more weapons and it’s fun,” Gutierrez said. “Everybody can score. The offense is designed for all of them.”

Hannah Graft tossed in 10 points to go with eight steals. Becca Chamberlin added eight points and Kira Robinson had six points and nine rebounds.

Tri’s top scorer, Payton Moore finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds.

“Our goal was to keep Moore from scoring,” Gutierrez said. “She is a terrific player.”

Averi Phelps led the Titans with 13 points, while she grabbed seven rebounds. Harrison finished with 11 points.

Lauren Bouslog added seven points and seven rebounds. Harvey ended with six points.

Winchester won the JV contest 37-32 with Kate Riggin leading the way with 14 points. Ara Cowper had 10 points.

For the Titans, Chloe Gentry and Bayleigh Appleby finished with eight points apiece.
