CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – The Winchester football team grabbed a big lead on Friday night and the Golden Falcons were able to hold on for a 58-22 victory over Lincoln.
After scoring once in the opening period, Winchester eventually built a 30-0 halftime advantage to take control of the Tri-Eastern Conference affair.
Aaron Beatty scored on a 28-yard run in the first stanza before Elias Gates added rushing touchdown of six and four yards in the second frame. Jordan Key caught a 15-yard pass from Austin Lawrence for the other score before halftime.
In the third, the Golden Falcons added three more touchdowns as they led 50-14.
Gates had a 31-yard run, while Beatty scored on a run from 63 yards. Isaiah Jordan-Miller also had a 6-yard run.
Lincoln got on the scoreboard with a 7-yard run by Matt Fields and a 57-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Craig to Chase Southerland.
Both teams scored in the final period. Fields added a 2-yard run for the Golden Eagles and Marshall Melton had 13-yard run for Winchester.
Winchester had two runners gain over 100 yards in the contest as Beatty finished with 154 on four carries and Gates added 106 on 23 attempts. Lawrence completed 9-of-15 passes for 119 yards. Key was his favorite target with four receptions for 67 yards.
Craig threw for 126 yards passing as he went 5-of-9. Southerland had four catches for 125 yards.
Defensively, Jonathan Thornburg led the Golden Falcons with 13 tackles. Key had an interception.
Winchester (3-2, 2-2) entertains Union City next Friday, while Lincoln (0-5, 0-3) visits Union County.
